Producer and Farm Story
Francisco is a second-generation coffee producer who started cultivating coffee with his father about 35 years ago. Although coffee was already being grown then, market demands were vastly different from today, and knowledge and understanding for producing high-quality coffee were insufficient. Over the years, he learned best practices and incorporated them into his work, steadily improving quality. Currently, he processes coffee with his family at their small washed mill at home. They continuously aim for further quality improvement by adopting the "fermentation and washing, followed by 12-hour immersion in water process" widely used in Huehuetenango. The farm name "Q'ejna" means "old house" in Mam, an indigenous language. Several old buildings where soldiers once lived remain in this area, and the farm was named after this history.
